tl;dr: Summary for the rapidly growing international audience on this independent journalistic website devoted to transparency in sport, the fight against corruption in sport, investigative journalism and the so called olympic movement:
Thomas Bach, widely seen as the favorite in IOC’s presidential race, which will be decided in Buenos Aires, September 10th, but losing ground in several polls, continues to get nervous – obviously. He has hired lawyer Christian Schertz, based in Berlin, and this advocate continues to send emails and letters with threatening content to journalists for doing their job – which means: they investigated, they asked questions. (…) But, instead of giving exact answers, Mr Bach and his lawyer threaten with “criminal complaint for libel and slander”. My well respected colleague Grit Hartmann was the first (freelance) journalist who has received such a threatening email. The newspaper Main-Post, based in Mr Bach’s home region, has published a very important story about West Germany’s doping past in July this year – today Main-Post is running three articles about the questions they have sent to the IOC presidential wannabe and the “answers” they have received by Bach’s lawyer Schertz.
